Murdock House Tour
On Saturday, August 23, Old Cowtown Museum hosted its summertime Curator’s Corner
event. One ticket from a sellout, members of the public got a behind-the-scenes tour of
our historic Murdock House. Guests heard facts and stories from our seven wonderful
volunteers who gave their time to bring the house to life. The storage areas upstairs were
also available for tour.
The Murdock House was built in 1874. The home was located on the Northwest corner of
Oak Street and 4th Avenue in Wichita…now Murdock and St. Francis. It was the home of
Marshall and Victoria Murdock until their deaths in 1908 and 1914 respectively.
In 1974, Cowtown received the house as a donation. After nearly a decade of repairs, the
house opened in 1982. It continues to be one of our most popular buildings. Thanks to
everyone who attended the tour and helped give our guests a wonderful experience.
