Our latest temporary exhibit is now available for viewing. With this year being the semiquincentennial of our nation, I was looking for an idea that celebrated our country. And with the existed saying “baseball is as American as apple pie,” we are celebrating the great sport of baseball.
Did you know that Old Cowtown Museum has our own baseball team? They were founded in 2004 and are known as Cowtown Vintage Base Ball Club. The word baseball is split into two words because that is how it was spelled back in the 1870s.
Our new exhibit is titled “Celebration of Base Ball in Wichita.” Co-created by our wonderful volunteer Vance Davis, our temporary gallery is full of baseball photos and artifacts.
When you visit the new exhibit, you will learn all about baseball in our area. Baseball in Wichita began in 1871. Did you know the Wichita fire department had a baseball team in the 1880s?
Our grand opening will be June 7 at 12:00 PM. This exhibit will run through the fall, so please visit Old Cowtown Museum to learn more about early baseball.
